Multicultural Family Coaching

Couples who come from different cultural backgrounds often face difficulties agreeing on family values, roles and responsibilities and the sharing of the household chores. Even if partners have strong emotional ties and hold their loved one dear, their different upbringing and values cause misunderstandings and disputes. The situation might even get worse as the family grows; couples often fail to build consensus on how to bring up their children. Topics that give rise to disputes include education, values, ethic & moral standards, appropriate behaviour and personal freedom & boundaries. Children who sense that their parents don’t agree on family rules and behaviour patterns and diverge in what they allow their children to do, start manipulating their parents and take control over their parents’ relationship. This might cause even greater alienation and disputes between partners and destabilise their children emotionally, as they feel guilty and partly responsible for their parents’ disputes.

Under the guidance of a professional coach you will learn how to deal positively with arising cross-cultural misunderstandings, differences in values and ethics and how to show respect and tolerance towards your partner. Couples with productive family patterns and harmonious romantic relationships are able to make a greater contribution to their children’s personal, intellectual and emotional development and path their children’s way towards a fulfilling and successful life.

Topics we will coach you around include:

  • Developing meaningful and productive communication rules and patterns
  • Developing understanding and tolerance regarding different cultural values
  • Creating cohesion amongst family members
  • Building trustful and harmonious relationships amongst family members
  • Recognising and understanding manipulative behaviour patterns and acquire the techniques to change this behaviour
  • Developing a communication style and appropriate techniques to ensure children understand the behavioural rules they are expected to comply with
